Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
A woman named Purnima Das Maity, aged 35, was found dead on Saturday in a water body in Haripur Gram Panchayat, Nandigram, East Medinipur. The body was identified by her family, who confirmed her identity. Purnima's paternal home is in Gholpukuria village, Nandigram 2 block, and she was married to Jayanta Das, who resides in Shrigouri, Haripur Gram Panchayat. The police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death.
Following the identification of the body, Purnima’s family filed a murder complaint at the Nandigram police station against her husband Jayanta Das, as well as his parents. Based on this complaint, the police initiated an investigation and arrested Jayanta Das on Saturday night from Nimtouri, Tamluk. The police charged him under relevant sections related to murder, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the crime.
On Sunday afternoon, a large crowd of local residents, enraged by the incident, gathered outside Jayanta Das's house in Shrigouri. The mob set the house on fire in protest. Police were dispatched to the scene, and they quickly brought the fire under control, preventing further damage. At the time of the incident, Jayanta’s parents were not present at the house and have since gone into hiding. Authorities are actively searching for them. The police are also continuing to gather evidence and investigate the full details of the crime.
